The CASAC Training Program

The Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Council of Orange County has been a front-runner in training hundreds of Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselors (CASACs) and Prevention Professionals in the Mid-Hudson region for over 15 years. Our reputation speaks for itself.

If you want to learn what it takes to help individuals and families recover from the devastating illness of addiction, we offer an extremely comprehensive program:

  • 350 CASAC-required hours completed in 12 months
  • OASAS-approved curriculum
  • FREE orientation session
  • Professional internship placement for all students so you can learn by doing
  • Professional assistance with an individualized approach
  • Direct communication with OASAS Credentialing Office to insure acceptance of your application

How to Qualify

If you have the interest, motivation, and a high school diploma, you probably qualify. In addition:

  • Credit is given for most college programs
  • Credit is given for a variety of in-service trainings
  • Current and past work experience may qualify for the OASAS work experience requirement

Our instructors come from a wide variety of healthcare specialties and each one has worked in the field of addictions treatment. Benefit from their experience in many areas including:

Internships are available at many treatment locations throughout the Orange County area, including but not limited to:

  • Pius XII Chemical Dependency Services, various locations throughout Orange County
  • Restorative Management, Middletown and Newburgh
  • RECAP, Middletown
  • The Unity Center at St. Luke’s/Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh
  • Riverside Support Center, Port Jervis
  • Turning Point, Beacon
  • New Directions at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis

R 40 hrs. every two years All CASACs must accrue 40 hours of courses every two years. Most courses will apply to this category as long as you have not taken them previously.

Held at the ADAC conference/training room, Goshen, NY

Weekday Daytime Classes
Held at the Family Support Center, Middletown, NY

Directions to ADAC Conference/Training Room, Goshen

From Rt. 17 East—Take Exit 124. Bear right at light at end of ramp onto Route 207-Goshen. Go straight through one light. As you approach second light in town, stay in right lane but continue going straight through five-way intersection. This road is Route 207/Main Street. ADAC is approximately 1/4 mile on the right. Look for a light blue building (Pius XII Family Services, #224 Main Street). Turn right into the driveway just before the building. ADAC is behind Pius XII.

From Rt. 17 West—Take Exit 124. Make left at light at end of exit ramp. Bear right at light at end of ramp onto Route 207-Goshen. Go straight through one light. Directions to Family Support Center, Middletown Community Campus

From Rt. 17 East—Take Exit 121 onto Route 84 West. Take Exit 3W onto Route 6/17M toward Middletown. Proceed to light (Weidy’s Furniture) and make left onto Dolsontown Road Extension. Go through one traffic light. At second traffic light make right turn (Mt. Hope Road-West Main Street). Make next left turn (see sign for Boomer’s and J & J Auto, Air & Sound) onto Dorothea Dix Drive. Make next right turn and see the Family Support Center to the right. The Family Support Center is a Victorian-style house with stone foundation.

From Rt. 17 West—Take Exit 123 onto Route 6/17M. Proceed approximately 5 miles. At the fifth light (Wiedy’s Furniture), make left onto Dolsontown Road Extension. Go through one traffic light. At second traffic light make right turn (Mt. Hope Road-West Main Street). Make next left turn (see sign for Boomer’s and J & J Auto, Air & Sound) onto Dorothea Dix Drive.
