Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Can Affect Anyone. ADAC provides confidential referrals and information to any person in need.

Do you or someone you know have a problem?

You may be addicted to alcohol or other drugs if:

  1. You have high a tolerance for alcohol and other drugs. Your drinking or drugging keeps you from dealing with reality. Your personality changes because of drinking or drugging. You have blackouts/memory losses. You have difficulty stopping drinking or drugging once you have begun. You repeatedly break promises about drinking/drugging and/or taking responsibility. You gulp drinks or compulsively use drugs. Your relationships with others are strained because of drinking/drugging. You are defensive when confronted about drinking or drug use and behaviors . You are drinking or using drugs alone. Your personal appearance deteriorates. You are neglectful or abusive with your family or friends. You become isolated. You are absent or late for work and other events because of your drinking/drug use.
  2. Your personal responsibilities deteriorate and/or your personal values break down because of your drinking or drug use.

  • Alcohol is the most widely used and abused drug in our community.
  • 10.5 million Americans show signs of alcoholism and/or alcohol dependence.
  • Alcohol-related family problems strike one of every four American homes.
  • 31% of all students had their first whole drink of alcohol before age 13.
  • 21% of 9th graders and 37% of 12th graders are at risk of alcohol poisoning when they binge drink; 1 in 10 times alcohol poisoning becomes tragic. 
  • Orange County is one of the highest risk counties in NYS for youth illicit drug use.
  • 41% of all students have used marijuana one or more times during their lifetime.
  • 27% of all students had someone offer, sell or give them an illegal drug on school property over the past twelve months.
  • Youth drug arrests are 62% higher in Orange County than the state average.
  • 68% of students have tried cigarette smoking and 23% smoked their first whole cigarette before age 13.
  • Alcohol and prescription drug misuse affects as many as 17% of older adults
  • An estimated 2.5 million older adults have alcohol-related problems.
  • Two out of five Americans will be involved in a drunk-driving crash.
  • In one year, 16,189 people died in alcohol related crashes in the US.
