Stayin' Out Project (SOP)

In an effort to reduce recividism, SOP serves male and female offenders aged 18 and older who have been sentenced to jail on Penal Law felony and misdemeanor offenses, including those adjudicated as youthful offenders, who have a high risk of re-offending and would otherwise be released to the community with no supervision or services.

SOP program design and delivery of the jail-based services delivered in the jail from beginning to end (release day) require a participant to be in jail a minimum of 65-100 days at the time SOP services are requested.

The key elements of the SOP are the assessment, direct program services and transitional planning provided in the jail, discharge planning, and community case management after release, as well as the partnerships in place to facilitate reentry preparation and transition.
